Health Certificate
Whether your cherished pet is traveling to their new location by commercial airline or by ground transport they must first be provided an examination and issued a health certificate by a licensed veterinarian.
Pets traveling outside the United States may be required to receive this examination by a veterinarian specifically certified by the USDA. Certain countries require endorsement of documents as a condition of boarding the airline and clearing customs. The results of the examination determine whether the veterinarian feels your pet can safely travel under the specified conditions, whether by airline or in a road vehicle. In addition to the examination the vet will need to ensure:
- Rabies vaccinations series and applicable boosters are current and fully documented
- Enzyme or parasitic testing, if deemed necessary, is performed based on the age or health status of the pet or statutory requirements of the country they are traveling to
- Micro-chipping of your pet as required by the new country (note: some countries require the 9 digit microchip while others require the 10 digit euro-chip)
- Other requirements, including quarantine, required prior to transport
