Choosing a Travel Crate
Choosing your pets travel kennel is one of the most important purchases you will make for your pets relocation. Airlines will reject a travel kennel should it be deemed too small for the dog or cat and/or lacks sufficient ventilation to allow for good airflow to your pet. The kennel must contain sufficient space for your pet to stand up, turn around and lie down comfortably. When the pet is delivered to the airline for his or her flight, the shipping personnel will inspect the crate carefully to ensure compliance with airline and USDA regulations. If air cargo personnel have any double that the kennel meets requirements the pets shipment will be rejected. If you decide to select and purchase the kennel yourself you should base the kennel size on the following measurements:
- The length of your pet when standing, from the base of the tail to the tip of the nose.
- The height of your pet when standing, from the floor to the top of the head. Air cargo personnel will probably reject the carrier if the pets head touches the top of the kennel when standing.
- Sufficient ventilation holes to allow for good airflow on all sides of the kennel
- Collapsible kennels, and wire crates, are not acceptable
